Donald "Donny" Edward Hans' Obituary
Donald Edward Hans, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Mercy New Life Hospice. He was 66 years old. Donald, affectionately known as Donny, was born on June 20, 1957, in Lorain, Ohio, to Harry and Ruth Hans (nee Schlotter). He was a cherished lifelong resident of Lorain.
Donny graduated from Lorain High School and embarked on a remarkable 42-year career with the United States Post Office, serving diligently as a dedicated mail carrier until his retirement in 2021. He took immense pride in his work, finding fulfillment in the service he provided to his community.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Donny was an avid supporter of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, but his love for sports extended beyond teams to the camaraderie and joy they brought him. He found immense happiness in spending time with his family and friends, creating cherished memories that will forever live on in their hearts.
Throughout his life, Donny was actively involved in various community organizations, including Olde Town Charleston, the American Legion, and the Amherst Eagles, where he forged lasting friendships and made meaningful contributions to those around him.
Donny is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Diane L. (nee Gladish), his loving children, Kelly (Brian) Dziak, David (Amanda) Schue, Donald Hans II, Allison Hans ,Melanie (Alan) Jordan, and Craig (Lindsey) Jordan; his adored grandchildren Marissa, Lauren, Nicholas, Ethan, Tyler, Charlotte, Vanessa, Andrew, Benjamim, Claire, Grace, Alexa, LeLand, Corey, Owen, Emilie, and Adeline. He is also survived by his brothers Richard Hans and Terry (Michelle) Hans; sisters Shirley Havens, and Jacqueline (Jeff) Utz; sister-in-law, Donna Hans; brother-in-law, Robert Pleus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Hans, his brother Harry Hans III; his sister Nancy Pleus; granddaughter, Leia Schue; sister-in-law, Joyce Hans; and brother-in-law, Robert Havens.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Donny will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Amherst Eagles, 1161 Milan Ave., Amherst, Ohio. Family and friends are encouraged to wear their favorite sports attire as a tribute to Donny's passion. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Donny to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
