Ethel Mae Lalonde's Obituary
Ethel Mae Lalonde (nee Siron), 87, of South Amherst passed away on September 20, 2021, after a long illness.
Ethel was born in Kanawha Head (Almost Heaven) West Virginia. Her parents moved to Lorain County, Ohio when she was about six years old so her dad could work at U.S. Automatics (which later became Nordson). She went to South Amherst and was amazed when she first walked into the gym as she had never seen a room so large before. Ethel married and had three sons. Frank and Ethel raised them in the sleepy and safe Village of South Amherst. She always said it was home and the place she most wanted to be.
Ethel’s life mostly revolved around her family. She took great care of her mom, often taking her shopping and to the Dairy Dell to buy custard and hillbilly hot dogs. Ethel was a great cook and often made the favorite dishes and desserts of her husband and sons. At times cooking huge meals for Mike and his Army buddies when they came home for weekends to play pool or for Rick and his college friends that loved to visit and come to the countryside.
In her younger days, she was a Deaconess at her church (now called the Sanctuary). She also swept and cleaned the church and prepared countless dinners. For her, it was of the utmost importance for her boys to accept Jesus as their personal Savior and attend a church.
In her later years, her favorite activities were watching tv, reading the Bible and other books, watching the birds that she fed lavishly, and having flowers. She particularly likes bright yellow and bright red flowers. She also loved and spoiled many dogs throughout her lifetime.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lalonde; parents, Maxon and Iva Siron; her brother, Harold Siron; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Lalonde.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Melanie) Lalonde, Joseph Lalonde, and Rick (Carol) Lalonde; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Dwight (Janet) Siron; and her sister-in-law, Janet Siron.
