Pat Mate
Dear Family. I have such wonderful memories of your dad as my sixth-grade teacher at St. Vincents as well as some great conversations with him when I would encounter him in the area in my adult years. We were his very first class and he genuinely cared about each of us. He organized a Christmas Caroling outing. We all hopped on the yellow school bus with him in the driver's seat. After caroling around the old Sheffield Center, we returned to St. V's for a "sock hop" with records we brought and hot chocolate provided by your dad.
In later years, we would often see each other at
Burr oak or Day's Damn. He would be on roller blades and I on my bike. Always sat and talked and caught up on things.
