George Ksenich's Obituary
George E. Ksenich, age 88, a lifelong resident of Lorain, died on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake following a short illness.
He was born on May 9, 1922 in Lorain to the late George and Mary (nee Andrascik) Ksenich. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1942. A sports enthusiast, he played football, basketball and ran track in high school. He attended Ohio University and played football there as well.
George proudly served our country during two wars. During World War II he served in the US Army from 1942-1946. He was a sergeant with the 229th Military Police Company. Then in the Korean War, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force for two years during the early 1950’s.
From 1946-1950, George worked at American Stove as an assembler. After his time in the Air Force, he began his career with Lorain County Beverage (Anheuser-Busch), where he worked for 30 years. He retired in 1982.
Having a passion for golf, he started working part-time at Bob-O-Link Golf Course in Avon after his retirement. He worked in grounds and maintenance for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and was a previous member of AmVets Post 47 in Lorain.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, especially for deer. He spent many years bowling in various leagues and earned many trophies for his accomplished games. He also enjoyed golfing and achieved a hole in one on his birthday one year.
Surviving is his wife, Mary (nee Seman); his sons, George (Gail), of Amherst and Howard (Fran), of Lorain, his daughters, Pamela Ksenich, of Lorain and Debora Ksenich, of LaGrange; 3 grandsons, George, Gannon and Dan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Ksenich and Rose Anne Ksenich.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 2:00 -4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, where a Parastas service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Panachida will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th St., Lorain. Fr. Nicholas Rachford, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard.
