Gerardo Corcino's Obituary
Gerardo Corcino, age 87, of Lorain, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain after a lengthy illness.
Born on December 25, 1924 in Luguillo, Puerto Rico he came to Lorain in 1947 to work at U.S. Steel as one of the pioneers from Puerto Rico hired to work at the steel plant.
Gerardo was employed as an operator for U.S. Steel, retiring after 35 1/2 years of service.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was very proud of his 6 grandsons and enjoyed attending all their sporting events. He found much pleasure tending to his vegetable garden, playing dominoes and watching the Cleveland Indians .
Gerardo is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sara (neeBenabe); son, Noel (Dawn) Corcino, of Rocky River; daughters, Helen (Richard) Mercado, of Lorain and Myrna (Mark) Jones, of Lorain; grandfather of, Brando and Steven Corcino, Christopher and Justin Mercado, Matthew and Miles Jones; brothers, Manuel Corcino, of Puerto Rico, Ceden Corcino, of Seattle, Washington, Benjamin Corcino, of Puerto Rico and William Feliciano, of New York; sister, Juanita Corcino, of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Marta (nee Lopez) Corcino; and siblings, Mariana, Hilda, Zenon, Julia, Paita, Gracilano, Pedro and Justina.
The Corcino family will receive friends on Monday, January 30, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in the Funeral Center at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Gilbert Silva, of House of Praise International Church, Lorain, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
