Gus M. Olexen's Obituary
Gasper “Gus” M. Olexen, age 70 of Elyria Twp. passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Main Street Towne Center in Avon Lake under the wonderful care of New Life Hospice.
He was born on October 8, 1948 in Lorain, Ohio to Michael and Pauline (nee Matesic) Olexen. He was a graduate of Admiral King High School.
Gus served in the United States Army, where he became a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles” at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a retired Teamster and dedicated member of The Amherst Eagles.
Gus had a life-long passion for auto racing. His racing career evolved, by participating in super modified sanctioned events. He enjoyed golfing, bass fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Gus is survived by his companion of 19 years, Pam Wilhelm; son, Michael (Leslie) Olexen, of Vermilion; daughter, Stephanie Olexen, of Lorain,; grandchildren, Karleigh and Austinn Harris; great-grandchild, Reign Zayas; and brother, Les (Pam) Olexen, of Vermilion, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Pauline Olexen.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 3:00 – 6:45 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Military Honors will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral center following the visitation. Private family burial services will take place at a later date.
