Herbert E. Lamprecht's Obituary
Herbert E. Lamprecht, age 85, of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021.
He was born on June 14, 1935 in Lintz, Texas. When he was only 6 months old his father passed away. His mother remarried and four siblings were born. When his mother divorced, and after finishing his sophomore year of high school, he dropped out of school to help support his mother and siblings. In 1958, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1962. Even while serving in the military, he would send every check he made back home to his mother and siblings, reserving only $20 a month for himself. He married his wife Marilyn in 1964 and afterwards moved with her to Amherst where he lived the rest of his life. He worked for Fruehauf Trailer, and in 1970, he began his career as a millwright for US Steel where he worked until he retired. Throughout his career he also enjoyed his passion working as a mechanic. You knew he was happy when you heard him whistling in the garage.
Herb was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and AMVETS. For many years he was also a member of the Ohio Lily Society where he won numerous awards for his prize-winning lilies. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the VFW and Legion, and had a love for fishing, gardening, and cooking shows.
Herb will be missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn (nee VanNiel); his daughters, Lisa (Stephen) Lawrence, Melissa Lamprecht, Diane (Gary Spivey) Lamprecht; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cassandra, Alyssa, William, Rebekah, Kaelynn, Ethan, Maria, Ashley, Rachel and Amber; his great granddaughter, Calliope; and his siblings, Roger (Lillian) McIntire, Maxine (Harold) Henk Seiler, and Loretta Hehs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Hugo and Melinda (nee Hackbarth) Lamprecht and a sister, Mary Carey.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16th, from 1 – 3 pm and 5 – 7 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral service will be at 7:00 pm. Rev. Fr. Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home will be following specific guidelines to ensure the safety of all visitors. We ask that you enter through our main entrance of the funeral center, please pay your respects to the family, and exit through our gathering center door. Face coverings are required, limited seating will be provided for the service to ensure that a six feet separation is maintained.
