James Joseph Gornek's Obituary
James Joseph Gornek, age 67, of Lorain passed away unexpectedely Friday, June 5, 2015.
He was born on February 24, 1948 in Lorain , Ohio to David and Irene (nee Gerber) Gornek and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1966. James enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on March 8, 1967 serving his country in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Cbt Aircrew Wings, Air Medal PVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm &Frame, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably discharged on March 5, 1972.
James retired in 2003 from the Ford Motor Company, where he worked as an Assembly Line Worker. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 451 and the Beavercreek Sportsman’s Club in Amherst. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating and motorcycles. He was always willing to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia (nee Hall); step-daughters, Lisa (Terry) Helton, Anita Martinez and Angela Martinez; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Slim) Smothers; and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, David and Irene Gornek.
Private family funeral services were held. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst.
