John Aloysius Kelley's Obituary
John Aloysius Kelley, age 76, of Lorain passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
He was born on August 11, 1941 in Warren, Ohio to Aloysius and Mary Evlalia “Honey” (nee Donohue) Kelley. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in 1959 and attended Oberlin Business College.
John worked in sales for Kohlmyer’s Sporting Goods for 20 years where he was responsible for supplying all the athletic equipment for the Lorain County High Schools. Upon leaving Kohlmyer’s, he went on to work as a shipping and receiving manager for 10 years for Murray Ridge MRDD.
John was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Lorain. He was an avid Cleveland Sports fan (yes, even the Cleveland Browns) he was a longtime coach of Little League Baseball and CYO Basketball. John’s heart was always with Lorain Catholic High School. He was one of the founding fathers of the Lorain Catholic High School Athletic Booster Club and was the official scorekeeper for the L.C. Boys Basketball team, he worked the chains at the football games and was always there to lend a hand for the benefit of the school and its athletic department.
He is survived by his son, Christopher ( Jill) Kelley, of Amherst; daughters, Cathleen (Wayne) Schick, of Columbus, Constance Szemesi, of Lorain, Mary (Gary) Gifford, of Wakeman, and Megan (Todd) Kelley Perry, of Dublin, OH; grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, Casey, and Kristen Kelley, Jacob, Joseph, Samuel Schick, Alexander, and Caroline Szemesi, Ashton, Abigail, Gavin, Gracyn, and Zoe Gifford, Brady and Harper Perry; current partner, Susan Miller; and former wife, Rosemary Kelley.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (nee Brady) Kelley; parents, Aloysius and Mary Kelley; and his brother, Patrick Kelley.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of John to Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
