Joseph Mihalic's Obituary
Joseph S. Mihalic, age 82, of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at New Life Hospice Residential Center of St. Joseph. Despite Joe’s longterm illness, he remained active and enjoyed life. Anyone who knew him, knew he did it “his way”.
Joseph was born on June 18, 1928 in Lorain to the late Blaz and Catherine (nee Fierjanic) Mihalic. Joseph was a longtime resident of Lorain before moving to Vermilion about 15 years ago.
Mr. Mihalic was a 1946 graduate of Lorain High School, upon graduating from high school Joseph joined the United States Navy with a group of several of his best friends. He served as a Machinist’s Mate Third Class and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1948.
Joseph owned and operated a commercial refrigeration and air conditioning business in Lorain for several years. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 42 and Knights of Columbus Council # 744. He loved to travel and enjoyed boating and hockey. He led and enjoyed an active life.
Mr. Mihalic is survived by his daughters, Carole (Luke) Dufresne, of Ft. Worth, Texas and JoAnn (Craig) Snyder, of Vermilion; son, David Mihalic, of Wyandotte, MI; grandchildren, Christian and Danielle Dufresne , Nichole (Snyder) Sheppard, Craig and April Snyder; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Alex and Evrit Sheppard; sister, Mary Kramer, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Blaz and Catherine (nee Fierjanic) Mihalic; sisters, Anna Brindza, Catherine Smith and Barbara Ellis; brothers, Robert and Lawrence Mihalic.
The family suggest donations be made in his memory to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
Private family funeral services were held under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, Oh. 44001.
