Kenneth L. Gorbey's Obituary
Kenneth LeRoy Gorbey, born on September 16, 1940, in Bergholz, Ohio, to Mike and Sarah (nee Johnson) Gorbey, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain at the age of 84.
Kenneth enlisted in the United States Navy on February 5, 1957, and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on February 4, 1963. A dedicated veteran, Kenneth, carried his sense of duty and service into his personal life.
A talented carpenter, Kenneth was the owner and operator of Gorbey and Sons Construction Company. His selflessness and generosity were evident in his willingness to teach his craft and donate his time to rebuild and repair homes for those affected by major storms or in need of assistance.
Kenneth was an avid fan of Cleveland sports, cheering passionately for the Cavaliers, Browns, and Indians. He also enjoyed fishing and found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. Known for his selflessness, loving spirit, and kind heart, Kenneth always saw the best in others and inspired those around him to do the same.
Kenneth is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Patricia T. (nee Mullenax) Gorbey; children Troy L. (Jennifer) Gorbey of Bloomington, IL, Gidget (James) Roark of Lorain, Chad Gorbey of Lorain, Suzette (Christopher) Latin of Sandusky, OH, and Stephon Gorbey Plaza of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Heath, Nichole, Ryan, Joey, Sienna, Seyveon, Stephon, Jacob, Sabrinia, and 8 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diana Gorbey of Mentor, OH. He is also survived by his siblings, Johnathan "Jay," and Milton "Dago."
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Roy Gorbey; his parents, Mike and Sarah Gorbey; and siblings Jack, Glen "Slick," Clinton "Speedy," Donald "Duck," Richard "Rich," Frederick "Fred”, James “Jim”, Mike, Mary Lou, Pearl, and Ann.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:15 p.m. in the funeral center, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and services led by Pastor Miguel Monge.
