Kenneth W. Layport Sr.'s Obituary
Kenneth W. Layport, Sr., age 66, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a short illness.
Born on September 8, 1949, in Oberlin, Ohio he graduated from Admiral King High School in 1967.
Ken served in the US Army for three years during the Vietnam War.
For 30 years he worked on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company, Lorain Assembly Plant. He retired seven years ago.
An active veteran, Ken was a member of the Lorain County Vietnam Veterans, where he served as a former president and on the memorial committee. He was also a member of the VFW Post 451 in Lorain and the American Legion Post 118 in Amherst.
He was a collector of baseball cards and guns and enjoyed playing sports.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, (nee Keyes); his sons, Kenneth Jr., Stephan (Jennifer), William (Helena); his daughters, Michelle (Jonathan) Gomez and April (Brian) Hansel; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and his sister, Linda Beagle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Fecik, his mother, Joann (nee Champeon) and his brother, Scott Vincent.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Pastor Richard Henry, of Amherst Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Full military honors will be conducted.
