Norbert Shinsky's Obituary
Norbert Henry Shinsky, age 85, of Amherst passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 1, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio to Alexander and Emma (nee Smarsh) Shinsky.
Norbert was a veteran of WW II, serving his country with the United States Navy.
In 1954, he started his own homebuilding and remodeling business, Shinsky Builders, which is now run by his children.
Norbert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary (nee Mihalic); children, Janet (Robert) Runner, of Sandusky, Carol (Daniel Bullock) Shinsky, of Lorain, Gail Shinsky, of Lorain, Norman (Sandi) Shinsky, of Lorain and Mandy (Tony) Smith, of Aiken, SC; 8 grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Shinsky Partyka, of Bedford, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Shinsky and Emma Shinsky Mertz; brothers, Floyd, Bill and Alex Shinsky.
The Shinsky family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Michael Denk, Associate Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Norbert to, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst or New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
