Roberta Travee's Obituary
LORAIN -- Roberta Travee (nee DiLuca), age 83, of Lorain, died June 24, 2016 with her family by her side, following a courageous 5-month battle with bone cancer. She was a caring and compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother and always gave of herself freely to others.
Roberta was born in the Abruzzo region of Italy, in the hillside town of Montesilvano, on February 3, 1933. She had vivid memories of growing up during WWII in Europe, worked at her father’s barber shop, and was also trained as a seamstress.
She emigrated to America following her June 1952 marriage to her husband Carl of 64 years and was a wonderful homemaker, raising her three children Peri (deceased 1982), Anne and John. She was also employed at St. Mary’s school cafeteria during the 1970’s and had volunteered her time at then St. Joseph’s Hospital, earning an award for her time commitment.
Roberta’s passion and gift for Italian cooking, baking and caring for her family was bested only by her passion for the Lord, as she was a very prayerful woman, fervent Roman Catholic and member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, giving to numerous charities throughout her adult life. She also enjoyed needlepoint and sewing for others.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents Giovanni Battista DiLuca and Maria Cristina Giovina (nee DiSimone) DiLuca, son Peri (1982), sisters Pia Passeri (2004), Lilliana Manunzio (2008) and Fiorella DiLuca (2013), and son-in-law Michael Decker (2005).
Roberta will be greatly missed by her family and friends and leaves her loving husband Carl , loving children Anne Marie Zachary (husband Mark) of Glendale Arizona, John Carl Travee (wife Lori) of Boardman, Ohio, 4 loving grandchildren – Kristen (Decker) Osborne, Vincent Travee, Ross Decker and Rena Travee, and many nieces and nephews.
The Travee family will receive friends on Sunday June 26, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27th. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
