Terry Olive's Obituary
Terry Olive, of Elyria, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the age of 67 after fighting a courageous battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Terry was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina and lived most of his adult life in Elyria. Terry was a teacher and intervention specialist in Elyria Public Schools for 38 years. His friendliness, kindness and hearty laugh were contagious and made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Terry lived everyday to the fullest. He had a passion for music and sang and played classic rock with the same bandmates for over many years. Terry loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, yard work, nature walks and campfires with his wife Brenda and their family and friends. His favorite sport was ice hockey and he played in a competitive league until the age of 60.
Terry’s favorite poem, “Success” attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson best describes his life. It reads in part-What is Success? To laugh often and much; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; this is to have succeeded.
Terry is survived by his wife, Brenda; his 4 children, Tressa (Brian) , Heather (Jeff), Courtney (Josh) and Tristan (Stacey); his step daughter, Sarah (Alex); his grandchildren Joey, Lucas, Ty, Cole and Scarlett; his brother, Robert (Mary Ann); and step-sister, Nancy (Dave).
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Olive Jr.; mother, Alice Olsavsky; step-father, Joe Olsavsky; and step-sister, Kay.
A private memorial service was conducted by Pastor Arnie Fleagle of Trinity Church in Amherst and held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to : giving.clevelandclinic.org and designated to the Rose Ella Burkhardt Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center or the American Brain Tumor Association to help fund research to beat brain cancer.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst, OH.
