Dear Millie and Family,

Sorry to hear about the loss of this decent Catholic man. His was certainly a life well-lived and a good example to the rest of us. I arrived in Cleveland too late to work with Bill; however, I got to know him later through his brief visits and later through NARPI chapter events. Bill had a never-ending supply of stories of working out of that obsolete Main Office on Public Square and the various characters he met in Cleveland and the rest of beautiful Ohio. He was truly that precious link to the Postal Inspection Service before specialization and when men wore hats.

He was also an inspiration for Catholic laymen -- to do our best by growing in faith, serving your family, your parish and local charities, and assuming leadership positions. Well done, good and faithful servant, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend and mentor to all he met.

Bill was a good man and had a zest for life. He had a great sense of humor and was seasoned prankster. He never took himself too seriously. He always made time for you when you needed a valued opinion. He was a good friend and trusted colleague. I share your great loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a good friend to my father, Gerard Volk. They enjoyed golfing and visiting during his visits to Loretto. He continued to visit my mother after my father died.

Millie and family, I am so sorry to hear only now of Bill's passing. I certainly would have been there with you all at his Mass of the Resurrection. He was my very best friend from my youth through the present; and will ever be, as our Mass Liturgy states: "his life has not ended, merrily changed" and as we were together then (mostly in Loretto) we will be together again, in that glorious life hereafter. Bill combined the best of the ethos of a Christian gentleman with the up-roaring taste for adventure which is quintessentially the creation of a joy-filled American. The many he had touched in his lifetime can exalt in having known one of the truly great and holy men of our lifetime. His historic accomplishments and personal warmth were so stupendous that I can scarcely find words to express my sentiments or give vent to my admiration. Ever his dear friend, Bill Karabinos

Mr Bengele was almost a daily part of my life growing up, impacting my life and influenced me so many times as a kid growing and learning from him and I have never forgotten any of it to this day! Thank you for all you did for me Mr Bengele.

Our times spent together with uncle Bill and aunt Millie were always filled with laughter, playing cards, stories being told, a round or two of golf and of course, delicious food! All of those times hold a special place in our hearts. We will miss you uncle Bill! May you Rest In Peace. Love to all of you!
